Juan Carlos Salgado TKO 1 Jorge Linares
Undefeated but relatively unknown Juan Carlos Salgado obliterated highly regarded previously unbeaten Jorge Linares to lift his WBA world super featherweight title moments ago in Japan. Both fighters started out the opening round feeling each other out, but forty seconds in to the fight Salgado landed a sudden and telling lead left hook that was perfectly placed between Linares’ guard. The powerful blow caught the defending champion on the temple and sent him crashing to the canvass. Linares got up on unsteady legs, and Salgado pounced on him in the corner, quickly pummeling him down for a second time. Linares was badly hurt and the bout was immediately waved off. The official time was 1:13 of Round 1. With the victory Salgado improved to 21-0-1 (15 KOs) while Linares (who was recently signed by Golden Boy Promotions) dropped to 27-1 (18 KOs).
